To say the Twins’ trade deadline moves were stunning is an understatement. After moving Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak to the Detroit Tigers on Monday, Minnesota traded Jhoan Duran and Harrison Bader to the Philadelphia Phillies, Louis Varland and Ty France to the Toronto Blue Jays, Willi Castro to the Chicago Cubs, Griffin Jax to the Tampa Bay Rays, Brock Stewart to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Danny Coulombe to the Texas Rangers, and, most surprising of all, Carlos Correa back to his former team, the Houston Astros.

Twins announce flurry of roster moves following deadline fire sale

Since Twins President of Baseball/Business Operations Derek Falvey traded nearly half of the major league team, he made a flurry of roster moves on Friday to ensure Minnesota has a full roster, the team announced.

Now, let’s dive into which eight players earned a promotion to the big leagues on Friday as a result of the Twins’ fire sale.

Here are the 8 players the Twins called up after trade deadline fire sale

INF Edouard Julien

Julien will finally get another opportunity at the big league level after slashing .276/.415/.464 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs in 299 plate appearances with Triple-A St. Paul this season. Julien started the season on the big-league squad but was demoted to Triple-A after posting a mere .607 OPS in 104 plate appearances. Julien struggled last season as well, having a .616 OPS with the Twins in 304 plate appearances and spending time in Triple-A. The Twins hope Julien can continue the success he has seen with the Saints this year and hit the way he did during his rookie campaign in 2023, where he had an .839 OPS and went 5-for-22 in the postseason.

UTIL Austin Martin

Martin, whom the Twins acquired as part of the Jose Berrios trade in 2021, essentially replaces Bader as a strong, right-handed hitting defensive outfielder. He can also play second base. He has been on the injured list twice this season, which has prevented him from gaining significant playing time, but he has impressed when healthy despite lacking power. In 137 plate appearances with Triple-A St. Paul this season, Martin has hit .319/.431/.398 with one home run, six doubles and two stolen bases.

OF/1B Alan Roden

The Twins acquired Roden, 25, as a part of the Varland/France trade with the Blue Jays and almost immediately called him up. He has absolutely raked in Triple-A this year, slashing .331/.423/.496 over 142 plate appearances with Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate. However, he has struggled in the majors, posting a lowly .589 OPS in 113 plate appearances with Toronto this season. Despite his limited major league action, Roden gave the Blue Jays two Outs Above Average. He is an above-average runner as well, with a sprint speed in the 67th percentile.

INF Ryan Fitzgerald

Minnesota previously called up Fitzgerald, who can play shortstop, second base and third base, to make his MLB debut in May when Carlos Correa landed on the injured list. He went hitless in three at-bats during his short stint in the majors. He has a .277/.367/.469 batting line with seven home runs for the Saints this year.

RHP Travis Adams

Adams' promotion marks the third time this season the Twins called him up to the majors from Triple-A. Considering the Twins traded almost their entire bullpen, Adams has a much better shot at sticking around in the big leagues this time. He has an 8.01 ERA in 12 ⅓ innings for the Twins this year, and has managed a 3.68 ERA across 63 ⅔ innings with the Saints in 2025.

RHP Pierson Ohl

Ohl made his MLB debut as a starting pitcher in place of Paddack on Tuesday, surrendering four earned runs on five hits and one walk in three innings as the Red Sox beat the Twins 8-5. Despite his poor start, Ohl struck out three batters in the first inning. He most likely will be in the Twins’ bullpen instead of being a starting pitcher, which is probably a better spot for him to succeed. He has a 2.17 ERA with 79 strikeouts across three minor league levels this season.

RHP Erasmo Ramirez

The Twins signed Ramirez, 35, to a minor league contract before the season, then placed him on the 60-day IL roughly one month later. He has allowed eight earned runs while collecting 12 strikeouts in 11 innings for the Saints since being activated from the IL on July 1. Ramirez has plenty of major league experience dating back to 2012, playing for the Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals. He has a career 4.37 ERA in 849 innings pitched. The Twins will most likely utilize him as a bullpen arm.

RHP Jose Urena

Like Ramirez, Urena, 33, has plenty of big-league experience. Minnesota signed Urena to a minor league deal in late June after he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his MLB debut in 2015 and has a career 4.78 ERA in 966 ⅔ innings. The Twins will more than likely use him as a reliever.
