The Twins have dealt right-handed reliever Brock Stewart to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder James Outman

Shortly after dealing Harrison Bader to the Phillies, the Twins have traded hard-throwing reliever Brock Stewart to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

In exchange, the Twins will receive outfielder James Outman, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

The Dodgers get a reliever who averages 96.1 mph on his fastball. Stewart, who is under team control through the 2027 season, throws his fastball over half of the time, and throws his other four pitches: a sweeper, changeup, cutter and sinker, about 11% of the time each.

Stewart, 33, has dealt with significant injuries throughout his career but has proven he can be dominant when healthy. This season, he sports a 2.38 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 34 innings over 39 outings. Since joining Minnesota in 2023, Stewart has managed a 2.33 ERA with 100 strikeouts and 30 walks in 77 ⅓ innings.

Stewart was with the Dodgers from 2016 to 2019, but his injuries and being blocked by an array of dominant relievers prevented him from succeeding.

Who is James Outman, whom the Twins acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Brock Stewart?

Outman, 28, finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting just two seasons ago when he accrued 3.4 bWAR and slashed .248/.353/.437 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs in 567 plate appearances. Unfortunately, Outman has regressed since his outstanding rookie season. He was worth -0.4 bWAR in 2024 while posting a .521 OPS in 156 plate appearances. He has only made 44 plate appearances for the Dodgers this season, posting a .487 OPS. However, he has dominated at the Triple-A level this year, putting up a .970 OPS in 70 games for Oklahoma City.

More Twins are expected to be traded before the 5 p.m. CT deadline. Among those who will likely be dealt are Willi Castro and Danny Coulombe. It's also very possible Griffin Jax will get traded if Minnesota receives an enticing offer.
