The Minnesota Twins designated right-handed reliever Woo-Suk Go for assignment last Friday to clear space for outfielder Walker Jenkins on the 40-man roster. Minnesota outrighted Go to Triple-A St. Paul after he cleared waivers. Go declined the outright assignment.
Go will return to South Korea. The right-hander agreed to a contract with the LG Twins of the KBO, according to Jee-ho Yoo of Yonhap News. Go played for the LG Twins from 2017-23 before signing a deal with the San Diego Padres in the 2023-24 offseason.
The Minnesota Twins acquired Go from the Detroit Tigers for cash in early July this year. He made his MLB debut with Minnesota in 2026.
The Twins optioned Go to Triple-A St. Paul in late July after he posted a 9.00 ERA over four innings out of the bullpen. He recorded an awful 12.54 ERA over 9 1/3 innings with the Saints before being designated for assignment.
Woo-Suk Go struggled with command in Twins organization
Go never solved his biggest issue during his time with the Twins organization: command. He walked 11 batters over his 9 1/3 innings with the Saints. The right-hander allowed 71 free passes over 145 1/3 career minor-league innings.
It's unfortunate Go never panned out for the Twins. He seemed like a solid pickup when Minnesota acquired him from Detroit, as he posted a 2.60 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings with Triple-A Toledo earlier this year. He posted a 0.66 ERA over 13 2/3 innings at the Double-A level to begin the season. The right-hander also allowed no earned runs over 3 2/3 innings for Team Korea during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Go can still make a great living in Korea. During his original stint with the LG Twins, Go recorded a 3.18 ERA with 401 strikeouts over 368 1/3 innings. Impressively, he made his KBO debut at just 18 years old.
Go's original MLB contract was a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Padres. San Diego traded the right-hander to the Miami Marlins as part of the Luis Arraez deal on May 4, 2024. The Marlins released Go in June 2025, allowing him to sign a minor-league deal with the Tigers. He elected free agency after the 2025 season before re-signing with Detroit on another minor-league contract.
Go could return to MLB later in his career, as he is still only 28. However, if he finds success in the KBO, he may prefer to stay in his home country.
