The Minnesota Twins avoided a series sweep against the Chicago White Sox with a 5-1 victory at Target Field on Sunday. Minnesota lost seven of its last eight games before the win.
Unfortunately, the team the Twins are chasing in the Wild Card standings, the Cleveland Guardians, also won on Sunday, beating the Kansas City Royals 11-1 at Progressive Field.

At this point, it feels the Twins need a miracle to make the playoffs. However, the Twins didn't lose any ground in the Wild Card race this weekend, so there's still hope the team can come back in the standings.
The Twins are set to host the Detroit Tigers for three games early this week before hitting the road for three-game series against both the White Sox and Tigers. Then, Minnesota will host Cleveland for three games. If the Twins can stay within striking distance of the Guardians before facing them, it's not too far-fetched to suggest Minnesota could reclaim the final Wild Card spot.
Twins placed Byron Buxton on IL with right hip impingement
The Twins placed center fielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list with a right hip impingement before Sunday's win against the White Sox. Minnesota recalled outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez as a corresponding move.
It marks Buxton's third stint on the IL since early July. All three times were due to his hip issue.
Many expected Minnesota to place Buxton on the IL as a corresponding move to calling up top prospect Walker Jenkins before Friday's game, but the Twins wanted to wait and see if Buxton could avoid an IL stint.
Jenkins hit ninth and played center field in all three games of the Twins-White Sox series this weekend. He went 2-for-9 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. He had a couple of hard-hit outs as well.
Woo-Suk Go clears waivers
The Twins designated right-handed reliever Woo-Suk Go for assignment to make room for Jenkins on the 40-man roster on Friday. Outfielder Alan Roden was optioned to clear space on the 26-man roster.
Go, 28, cleared waivers. The Twins outrighted him to Triple-A St. Paul, according to MiLB.com. He had already been pitching for St. Paul before being DFA'd.
The Twins acquired Go from the Tigers for cash in early July. He has posted a poor 12.54 ERA over 9 1/3 innings with the Saints since being acquired by Minnesota. He posted a 9.00 ERA over four innings with the Twins before being optioned to St. Paul on July 21.
