Twins fans who are still watching the team despite the disastrous season have already seen Chris Paddack twice since he was traded to the Detroit Tigers along with Randy Dobnak in exchange for catching prospect Enrique Jimenez on July 28. Paddack suffered the loss both times he faced the Twins this year, allowing four runs on six hits (two homers) on Aug. 5 in Detroit before surrendering eight runs on nine hits and three walks on Aug. 17 in Minnesota.

Tigers move former Twin Chris Paddack to bullpen

Overall, Paddack had a 6.38 ERA with 28 hits, five walks and nine strikeouts in 24 innings over five starts with Detroit. Due to Paddack's struggles, the Tigers decided to move him to the bullpen, where the former Twin thrived after returning from the injured list in Sept. 2023.

However, Paddack's first bullpen appearance with Detroit went poorly; Paddack entered the Tigers' game against the Mets on Tuesday in Detroit with one out in the sixth inning and managed to escape the frame unharmed. However, the seventh inning was a different story for Paddack, as he immediately surrendered back-to-back homers to All-Stars Juan Soto and Pete Alonso and proceeded to give up four more runs on six hits while recording two outs before being replaced by Tommy Kahnle.

Although Paddack had a solid run with the Twins, his peripherals suggested regression would occur, which clearly it has with the Tigers. Even though Paddack has a chance to redeem himself this Sept. and possibly in the postseason, it's safe to say that he has returned to being the pitcher he has been for the majority of his career. Although it doesn't really matter to the Twins what Paddack does with Detroit for the remainder of the season, Minnesota certainly is happy it was able to shed his and Dobnak's contracts, especially with how Jimenez has looked in the Twins organization thus far.

Catching prospect Enrique Jimenez, whom the Twins acquired from the Tigers in the Chris Paddack trade, is thriving in the minor leagues

Jimenez has been on a tear in 19 games for Single-A Fort Myers, slashing .264/.376/.494 for a 143 wRC+ with six home runs and 16 RBI in 87 plate appearances. Only in Single-A at 19 years old, Jimenez likely won't be in the majors for at least a couple of years, but the Twins definitely like what they have seen from the young catcher thus far.
