Detroit Tigers right-handed starting pitcher Chris Paddack, whom the Twins traded to the Tigers along with right-handed pitcher Randy Dobnak in exchange for minor league catcher Enrique Jimenez on July 28, suffered the loss in the Twins' 8-1 win against the Tigers at Target Field on Sunday afternoon.
Paddack surrendered a whopping eight earned runs on nine hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in Sunday's game between Minnesota and Detroit. Royce Lewis started the scoring with a solo home run off a sinker from Paddack in the second inning. Byron Buxton followed with a solo homer, his 25th of the year, off a changeup in the third inning to make the score 2-1. After an RBI groundout from Kody Clemens, Brooks Lee all but put the game away with a grand slam off a high and inside fastball from his former teammate with two outs in the third inning. Luke Keaschall grounded into a force out, allowing Buxton to score, in the following inning to give Minnesota its eighth run of the game.
Sunday's matchup between the Twins and Tigers marked Chris Paddack's second loss of the season against Minnesota
The first time Paddack faced the Twins after being dealt to the Tigers (August 5), the former Twin allowed four runs on a Kody Clemens RBI double, Luke Keaschall's first career home run (two-run homer) and a solo home run from Trevor Larnach, respectively, as Minnesota beat Detroit 6-3 at Comerica Park.
Paddack has made two other starts since being traded to the Tigers, surrendering just one run in six innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 30 and allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox on August 11.
Checking in on Randy Dobnak and Enrique Jimenez, both of whom were a part of the Chris Paddack trade
Dobnak, 30, has made three starts with Triple-A Toledo, posting a 2.84 ERA with 16 strikeouts and five walks in 12 2/3 innings. With rosters expanding to 28 players in September, the Tigers may utilize Dobnak as added bullpen depth or to give the starting rotation rest.
Meanwhile, Jimenez, 19, has been on a tear with Low-A Fort Myers, slashing .265/.468/.529 with three home runs in 47 plate appearances.
