When you think of Twins prospects, you probably think of the organization's top five ranked players: Walker Jenkins, Vahn Lackey, Kaelen Culpepper, Marek Houston and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Three of those players - Jenkins, Culpepper and Rodriguez - are currently on the Twins' active roster.
However, several other prospects in the Twins' system quietly put together strong seasons in the minors and deserve more recognition. Let's take a look at a few of them.
3 Twins prospects whose fantastic seasons have flown under the radar
C Khadim Diaw
Diaw, 23, often gets overlooked because he is the third-ranked catcher in the system behind Lackey and Eduardo Tait, but he deserves more recognition. He has also played plenty of center field this season, so he can play outfield for Minnesota in the future if the team doesn't have room for him at catcher.
Diaw earned a promotion to Double-A this year after slashing .300/.405/.454 with five home runs and 31 RBI over 58 games with High-A Cedar Rapids. He posted even better numbers in 49 games with Double-A Wichita, slashing .314/.430/.449 with four home runs and 16 RBI over 49 games.
OF Hendry Mendez
Like Diaw, Mendez often gets overlooked because the Twins system has so many talented prospects at his position. The Twins acquired Mendez from the Philadelphia Phillies as part of last year's Harrison Bader trade.
Mendez began the year by hitting .281/.363/.494 with four home runs and 21 RBI over 24 games with Double-A Wichita. The Twins promoted Mendez to Triple-A St. Paul after his strong performance with the Wind Surge. He hit a solid .281/.377/.411 with eight home runs and 42 RBI over 78 games with the Saints this year.
RHP Adrian Bohorquez
Bohorquez, 21, earned a promotion to Double-A after he recorded a 4.19 ERA over 38 2/3 innings with High-A Cedar Rapids this year. He also pitched four scoreless innings with the FCL Twins during a rehab assignment this year.
Bohorquez made just four starts with the Wind Surge this year and posted an exceptional 1.06 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP and 18 strikeouts over 17 innings. Between all three levels in the minors this year, the right-hander recorded a 3.02 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and 69 strikeouts over 59 2/3 innings.
Bohorquez is the Twins' No. 18 overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He is the organization's No. 5 overall pitching prospect. He throws a fastball that can reach 99 mph, a high-80s slider, a low-80s curveball and a changeup.
