Unfortunately, the Twins won't make the playoffs this year, and with eight games remaining in the regular season, there isn't much to be positive about regarding the 2026 Twins team. However, that doesn't mean there isn't much to look forward to about the Twins. Minnesota has several young stars and numerous exciting prospects who could be in the majors as soon as next season (if there is one).

SS Marek Houston
The Twins drafted Houston with the No. 16 overall pick out of Wake Forest last year. The shortstop has already reached Double-A in his first full professional season.
Many raved about Houston's defensive ability when the Twins drafted him. Some said he was the best defensive shortstop of his class. However, while he put up strong offensive numbers in college, some questioned whether he could hit at a high level in professional ball. Houston has quickly proved his doubters wrong, slashing .312/.392/.455 with 12 home runs and 60 RBI over 116 games this year. He's also a threat on the basepaths, stealing 50 bags in 2026.
As long as Houston stays healthy, he should start the 2027 season at Triple-A St. Paul. Then, if he continues to hit well with the Saints, Houston should be in the majors at some point next year unless a lockout cancels the MLB season.
C Khadim Diaw
Diaw often gets overlooked as a catcher in a farm system that includes top catching prospects Vahn Lackey and Eduardo Tait. However, Diaw has shown he deserves a shot at the majors soon, hitting .306/.417/.452 with nine home runs and 47 RBI over 107 games between High-A and Double-A this year.
While Diaw, 23, has mainly been a catcher in the minors, he also played plenty of center field in 2026. Lackey appears to be the catcher of the future, but Diaw could still catch or play outfield for the Twins as soon as next year if he keeps performing at a high level. He should begin the 2027 season at Triple-A.
OF Hendry Mendez
In an absolute steal of a trade, the Twins acquired Mendez and minor-league pitcher Geremy Villoria from the Philadelphia Phillies for outfielder Harrison Bader last summer. Mendez, 22, immediately took his game to the next level after joining the Twins organization, posting a .911 OPS at Double-A Wichita last season and an .819 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
As a left-handed hitting outfielder, Mendez may struggle to find regular playing time with the Twins, a team with plenty of talented left-handed hitting outfielders. However, Mendez has proved he deserves a shot in the majors and could make his MLB debut as soon as next season if he starts the year strong with the Saints.
