The Tampa Bay Rays punched their ticket to the World Series with a 7-3 win against the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Monday. The Rays will play the Milwaukee Brewers, who swept the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the National League Championship Series. The Rays last appeared in the World Series in 2008, while the Brewers haven't been in the Fall Classic since 1982. Neither club has ever won the World Series.
No matter what, a former Minnesota Twins player will earn a World Series ring this year.
3 former Twins players headed to World Series between Brewers and Rays
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Gary Sánchez
Sánchez is Milwaukee's backup catcher behind star William Contreras. Sánchez has made just one postseason plate appearance this year, working a walk with two outs in the ninth inning of Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, allowing Jackson Chourio to step to the plate and hit a walk-off two-run single.

Sánchez, 33, hit .209/.349/.422 with 12 homers and 38 RBI in 275 plate appearances during the regular season. In his lone season (2022) with the Twins, the catcher slashed .205/.282/.377 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI. Minnesota acquired him from the New York Yankees in the Josh Donaldson trade before the 2022 season. After the 2022 season, Sánchez has played for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles and Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed closer Trevor Megill
Megill's only season with Minnesota was also in 2022. The right-hander struggled with the Twins, posting a 4.80 ERA over 45 innings. The Twins traded Megill to the Brewers on April 30, 2023.
Megill became a star after joining Milwaukee, posting a 2.80 ERA with 81 saves and 231 strikeouts over 189 2/3 innings. This season, he posted a 2.63 ERA with 30 saves and 69 strikeouts over 61 2/3 innings.
In this year's postseason, Megill has allowed just one hit and two walks over 5 2/3 shutout innings while striking out six. In 13 career playoff appearances, the right-hander has allowed just one earned run on four hits and three walks over 13 innings.
Tampa Bay Rays right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax
Jax made his MLB debut with the Twins in 2021. He began his career as a starter but struggled in the role, leading Minnesota to convert him to a full-time reliever. Jax excelled in his new role, posting a 3.32 ERA with 313 strikeouts in 254 2/3 innings as a full-time reliever for the Twins starting in 2022.
Minnesota traded Jax to the Rays at the 2025 trade deadline for right-handed starter Taj Bradley. The Rays converted Jax back to a starter this year. In 112 1/3 regular-season innings across 34 outings (23 starts) with Tampa Bay in 2026, Jax posted a 3.53 ERA while striking out 116. He has allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings across two postseason outings (one start) this year.
