Minnesota Twins: 3 Up, 3 Down for week of 5/27-6/2
By Chris Schad

DOWN: Martin Perez
Throughout the first couple months of the season, the surprise story of the Twins was starter Martin Perez. After struggling with the Texas Rangers for most of his career, he entered his May 30 start against the Rays with a 7-1 record and a 2.95 ERA while looking like one of the better pitchers in the Twins’ rotation.
Although Perez had gotten off to a 5-0 start to the season, his last four starts have been off the mark. During that stretch, Perez has posted a 5.59 ERA with opponents posting a .841 OPS against the left-hander. To make matters worse, Perez has only made it to the sixth inning in one of those four starts despite a 2-2 record.
The Twins bats couldn’t save Perez from taking the loss against the Rays as he allowed six runs in 2.2 innings of work. Perhaps this is just a rough patch from a pitcher that has struggled with consistency during his career, but with an uninspiring track record prior to his arrival in Minnesota, it’s sure to raise some eyebrows.
