UP: Jake Odorizzi

Jake Odorizzi’s first year in a Twins uniform didn’t go so well, but the 29-year old right hander is having a rebound season that is putting him in the early conversation for the American League Cy Young Award.

The latest installment in Odorizzi’s strong season came in the Twins 9-7 victory over the Rays on Sunday. Like he has throughout the year, he was able to shut down the Tampa Bay offense for six scoreless innings allowing three hits and a walk while striking out nine. The performance lowered his AL-leading ERA to 1.96 and is currently posting a 0.92 WHIP which obliterates his previous career-low of 1.15 in 2015.

With rumors that the Twins could be interested in starter Dallas Keuchel in the coming days, Minnesota could already have an established top of the rotation with Odorizzi and Jose Berrios leading the way. Odorizzi’s emergence could be the extra piece the Twins need to continue their winning ways.
