UP: Nelson Cruz & Mitch Garver

The Twins month of May was one of the best in franchise history as the team went 21-8 and set the franchise record for home runs in a month by sending 52 over the wall. Again, this team has done some surreal things this season, but what makes this even more impressive is that the Twins did this without two of their best hitters.

As the week comes to a close, the Twins got some good news on injured sluggers Mitch Garver and Nelson Cruz. Garver, who injured his ankle in a home plate collision with Shohei Ohtani on May 14, returned to the lineup in Sunday’s finale against the Rays while Cruz began a rehab assignment last Saturday with High-A Fort Myers.

If all goes well for Cruz, there’s a good chance the Twins could have two staples of their lineup back in the fold in time for a big divisional series against the Cleveland Indians beginning on Tuesday night. If that’s the case, the Twins will have another opportunity to build their commanding 11.5 game lead in the American League Central.
