Nick Gordon of the Minnesota Twins was named to the Futures All-Star game in Miami, Florida.

Last year’s Futures game featured Minnesota Twins prospect J.T. Chargois and current Twin Adalberto Mejía. Chargois gave up three runs in the top of the ninth in a 4-3 game that ended up being 11-3 in favor of Team World. Mejia appeared in the bottom of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to secure the victory. He was then traded to the Twins at the deadline for Eduardo Núñez.

Nick Gordon was the Twins first round pick (5th overall) in 2014 out of Olympia High School in Orlando, FL. He is the son of Tom Gordon, a MLB pitcher for 21 years and step-brother of Marlins second baseman, Dee Gordon. Nick has proven to be quite the talent as he is the Twins number one prospect.

Gordon has moved up a level each year in the minors and he has gotten better as well. This season he has begun to add pop in his bat with more home runs than his previous three years combined. By the way, the season is only at the halfway point. He is currently batting leadoff for Chattanooga.

Gordon is playing a premier position as well.

The Lookouts are the Twins Double-A affiliate and are currently the top team in the Southern League. With Nick leading off they have found offensive success, he also plays shortstop. The Twins have been searching for an answer at shortstop for quite some time.

Nick competed in the Arizona Fall League last season with the Surprise Saguaros and hit .346 earning a spot in the All-Star Game. He competed on the same team as Chicago White Sox top prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech. He will join those two at the Futures All-Star game as well.
