Adam Wilk has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester to start the first game of the Twins doubleheader against Cleveland on Saturday.

The Minnesota Twins made a roster move prior to the start of Saturday’s doubleheader. They have called up Adam Wilk and optioned Ryan Pressly. Alex Wimmers was also called up as the 26th man as part of the MLB’s doubleheader rule.

Wilk will be making his second major league start of the 2017 season and his first in a Twins uniform. Adam was claimed off of waivers from the New York Mets on May 10, 2017. He made two relief appearances for the Twins earlier this season before being sent back down to Triple-A.

In his two appearances with the Twins he pitched seven innings giving up eight hits, three runs and recording a 3.86 ERA. If Wilk can provide a seven inning start giving up just three runs the offense should be able to back him. A win in the first game would help the Twins hold onto first place in the Central Division.

Wilk will look to rebound from his first start this year.

Wilk’s only previous start this season for the Mets came on May 8th. He gave up six runs, five earned in 3.2 innings pitched while giving up eight hits and three long balls. With the Twins he has given up two home runs already this season.

Ryan Pressly has been sent down a week after getting recalled. In his two relief appearances this week he pitched four innings giving up just two hits and one earned run. Pressly looked like he had regained confidence after a strong showing in Triple-A. He cannot be called back up for another ten days.

Alex Wimmers was recalled for Saturday’s doubleheader to protect the other arms in the bullpen. With the doubleheader being scheduled more than 48 hours in advance Wimmers can appear in either game today. In 5.2 innings of relief this season he has a 4.76 ERA with 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Adam Wilk will get another shot to show the Twins what he has in the first game on Saturday. Wilk will most likely be sent back down after his start today so the Twins can add another fresh arm to their staff. Wimmers will also be sent back down at the end of today with no corresponding move as he is only allowed to play these two games.
