MLB Futures Game: Jose Berrios Pitches a Scoreless Inning
Earlier today the All-Star Futures Game was played in Cincinnati. The US team came out on top 10-1. Kyle Schwarber received MVP honors. But what is most important is how each team’s prospects performed. The Twins had only one representative in the Futures Game.

Jose Berrios started on the mound for the World futures team. It is the second year in a row that Berrios has pitched in the Futures Game.
Max Kepler would have been the other Twins representative but injured his throwing shoulder just days before today.
Today Berrios walked the lead-off man on five pitches but then picked him off for the first out. The second batter popped out to the catcher. The finally batter of the inning was Schwarber, he grounded out to the first baseman to end the inning.
6 of the 15 of his picthes were strikes. He fell behind every batter he faced, but still managed to face only three batters thanks to the pick off. Chalk it up to nerves.
Berrios is currently in Triple-A Rochester. He started the year in Double-A Chattanooga. There Berrios posted an 8-3 record while striking out 92 in 90 2/3 innings.
I believe that we will see Berrios pitching for Twins later this season. But as of now he is not on the 40-man roster. This would mean that the Twins would have to decide who swap with Berrios. Time will tell. There is no denying he is on the fast track to the majors.
