When you think of Twins prospects, the names that come to mind are likely Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel RodrÃguez, Kaelen Culpepper, Connor Prielipp and Eduardo Tait. However, one underrated Twins minor leaguer who doesn't even rank among MLB Pipeline's top 30 Minnesota prospects, outfielder Kyler Fedko, is proving he deserves a shot at the big leagues after a breakout 2025 season and a recent power surge with Triple-A St. Paul.
After a rough 2024 season in which he posted a poor .646 OPS in 76 games with Double-A Wichita, Fedko broke out in 2025 by slashing .253/.375/.495 with 20 homers, 15 doubles, 58 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 88 games with the Wind Surge before being promoted to Triple-A St. Paul. He finished the season hot with the Saints, hitting .268/.353/.476 with eight home runs, 10 doubles, 24 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 42 games.
Fedko, a right-handed batter and fielder, struggled in spring training this year, collecting just three hits and two walks in 25 plate appearances, and hit just .107 with a 33.3% strikeout rate during his first 11 games of the season with the Saints. But since then, he's been on an absolute tear at the plate. On April 12 against the Toledo Mud Hens, Fedko went 4-for-4 with three homers and a triple, marking the beginning of his current hot streak in which he's hitting .325 with five homers, two doubles, a triple, five singles, four walks and 13 RBI in 11 games.
Overall, Fedko has a .235/.293/.515 slash line in 75 plate appearances this season. The outfielder has an awful .160/.218/.300 slash line in 50 at-bats against righties this year, but holds an outstanding .444/.500/1.111 line in 18 at-bats against southpaws.
Fedko could replace OF Matt Wallner on Twins' 26-man roster
If the Twins demote Wallner, who has been worth a team-worst -0.8 bWAR with a 61 OPS+ in 25 games this season, most would likely assume outfielder Emmanuel RodrÃguez, FanSided's No. 66 overall prospect, will take his place. However, it's difficult to justify keeping corner outfielders Austin Martin and Trevor Larnach out of the lineup regularly, and Byron Buxton obviously has center field locked down. The Twins could have Larnach serve as the designated hitter more often to make room for RodrÃguez in the outfield, but that'd mean Josh Bell, a poor defender, would have to play more first base.
I still think the Twins should promote RodrÃguez, but they could also consider calling up Fedko if Wallner is optioned. Fedko could fill a platoon role as a lefty masher, similar to how Kyle Garlick was used earlier this decade. Meanwhile, if the Twins recall RodrÃguez, they’ll want him to play regularly to ensure his development isn’t stunted.
