FanSided's Eric Cole released his list of top 100 MLB prospects for 2026 on Monday morning. Cole showed the Twins plenty of love, with outfielder Walker Jenkins (No. 9), shortstop Kaelen Culpepper (No. 65), outfielder Emmanuel Rodríguez (No. 66) and left-handed pitcher Connor Prielipp (No. 83), who was just promoted to the Twins' taxi squad for the Mets series this week, all making the list.

While the Twins got plenty of deserved recognition on FanSided's top 100 prospects list, one notable catcher prospect, Eduardo Tait, didn't make the cut.

MLB Pipeline has Tait ranked as the No. 58 overall prospect. Baseball Prospectus had the catcher ranked No. 54 overall pre-2026. Baseball America had him ranked No. 94 pre-2025 and left him off its top 100 prospect list this year.

Since some major publications believe Tait, a left-handed hitter, is a top 60 prospect and others think he isn't even a top 100 prospect, the catcher's future is very difficult to predict, especially since he's still a teenager.

The Twins acquired Tait along with right-handed starting pitcher Mick Abel, who threw 13 scoreless innings over his last two starts, from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for star closer Jhoan Duran, who was recently placed on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain, at last summer's trade deadline.

Tait, whom the Phillies signed out of Panama for only $90,000 in January 2023, struggled after joining the Twins organization last season, hitting .250/.286/.408 with three homers, 10 doubles and 14 RBI in 126 plate appearances across 30 games with High-A Cedar Rapids. He's performing much better with Cedar Rapids in 2026, slashing .275/.436/.500 with two homers, three doubles and nine RBI in 55 plate appearances across 13 games.

Tait appears to be Twins' catcher of future

Tait isn't known to be a strong defensive catcher, but he has a strong arm and appears to be "moving in the right direction with his receiving and blocking," per MLB Pipeline. As long as he continues to progress behind the plate, Tait appears to be Minnesota's catcher of the future.

Ryan Jeffers is slated to be a free agent at this season's conclusion, and Victor Caratini is under contract through next season. Unless the Twins extend Jeffers, Caratini will likely assume the starting catcher position in 2027, or at least share the starting duties with a veteran. If Tait progresses as planned, there's a good chance Minnesota will have the former Phillies prospect be the team's starting catcher in 2028.
