After electing free agency, Cabrera signed a deal with the Chicago Cubs, where he struggled with an 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings.
The Cubs designated Cabrera for assignment in late June, which led to him electing free agency again. He signed with the Pirates shortly after. He posted a 4.91 ERA in 11 innings with Pittsburgh.
