If you told someone before the season that the Twins would have a 3-8 record during an 11-start stretch from Chris Paddack, they probably would have expected it based on Paddack’s track record. That is precisely what Paddack has done as of late, but it isn’t his fault.
Twins starter Chris Paddack enduring Jacob deGrom experience in 2025
After Paddack, who the Twins acquired back in 2022 along with Emilo Pagán in exchange for Taylor Rogers and Brent Rooker, got a no-decision despite allowing just two runs on four hits and two walks in Minnesota’s 5-4 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, the Twins dropped to 3-8 in Paddack’s last 11 starts. During those 11 outings, Paddack posted an outstanding 2.25 ERA, while Minnesota averaged just 2.3 runs per game.

Twins' lineup has scored an average of just 2.3 runs in those last 11 games started by Paddack.
Paddack's recent stretch of bad luck draws similarities to deGrom’s back-to-back Cy Young Award winning years with the New York Mets from 2018-19 following an excellent 2017 season.
In 2018, deGrom had a league-leading 1.70 ERA and 1.98 FIP with 269 strikeouts in 217 innings, yet he barely had a winning record at 10-9. deGrom suffered a similar fate in his second Cy Young season, posting an 11-8 record with a 2.43 ERA, 2.67 FIP and 255 strikeouts over 204 innings. Before those two seasons, deGrom actually had a losing record with the Mets at 7-8, yet posted a 3.04 ERA across 148 innings.
This season, Paddack holds a poor 2-5 record but a solid 3.53 ERA despite allowing nine runs in 3 ⅓ innings against the Chicago White Sox in his first start of the season. Hopefully for Paddack, he will continue to pitch well, and the Twins improve their offensive production during his starts.
