Twins recall former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman, place former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Alan Roden on 10-day injured list
The Twins have placed outfielder Alan Roden on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb strain, the team announced. Outfielder James Outman was recalled as a corresponding move and will join the team Saturday.
In 12 games with the Twins, Roden, whom the Twins acquired ahead of the July 31 Trade Deadline along with lefty starting pitcher Kendry Rojas from the Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed reliever Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France, has posted a poor .158/.200/.263 slash line with one home run and 13 strikeouts in 40 plate appearances. On the season, Roden has a .555 OPS for a 56 wRC+ in 153 plate appearances with Toronto and Minnesota. He has hit well in the minor leagues this year, posting a .331/.423/.496 batting line with 16 homers for Triple-A Buffalo. Roden needs to step up his game offensively, but he has been spectacular defensively, posting two outs above average in his limited time in the majors this season.
For Triple-A St. Paul, Outman, whom the Twins acquired from the Dodgers in exchange for righty reliever Brock Stewart on July 31, went 12-for-51 with three home runs, two doubles, one triple, 10 RBIs and three triples for an .806 OPS. He will wear number 43 with Minnesota.
Whatever he's been working on, it's paying off. @james_outman drills a solo homer to right, his third of the season, making it 3-0. He now has a nine-game hit streak and 6 XBH in his last 8 games (2 2B, 3B, 3 HR). He also has 8 RBI in his last 5 games pic.twitter.com/bUeoAhQXMN

Outman, 28, made his MLB debut in 2022, posting a 1.409 OPS in 16 plate appearances before posting 3.4 bWAR and finishing third in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2023. Outman has since struggled in the majors, posting negative WAR in 2024 and 2025 while spending a lot of time in Triple-A.
Twins aim to avoid series loss against Tigers
After dropping Games 1 and 2 of the four-game set against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field, the Twins are set to play Game 3 of the series at 6:15 p.m. CST on Saturday. Young righty Zebby Matthews is expected to make the start on the mound for Minnesota, and righty Casey Mize is slated to start for Detroit.
