After defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Sunday, the Minnesota Twins have selected the contract of outfield prospect Kyler Fedko, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Infielder Orlando Arcia has been designated for assignment as a corresponding move.
It's a long-overdue promotion for Fedko, 26. After a rough 2024 season in which he slashed .227/.327/.319 (84 wRC+) in 76 games with Double-A Wichita, Fedko bounced back with a strong 2025 season, hitting .258/.367/.487 (130 wRC+) with 28 home runs, 82 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 130 games between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul. Fedko, who isn't among MLB Pipeline's list of top 30 Twins prospects, has been even better thus far in 2026, slashing .286/.372/.578 (138 wRC+) with 15 homers, 45 RBI and nine stolen bases.
Meanwhile, the Twins DFA'd Arcia after just 50 plate appearances in 18 games. The former All-Star and World Series champion hit .271/.300/.354 (81 wRC+) with one home run and recorded innings at all four infield positions for Minnesota. Before his contract was selected on May 19, Arcia hit .318/.376/.556 (137 wRC+) in 39 games with Triple-A St. Paul.
How Fedko's promotion affects the Twins' roster
Fedko, a right-handed batter, likely won't be an everyday player for Minnesota. For now, it seems likely he will get most of his opportunities against southpaws. While he's been great against righties this season, slashing .250/.323/.500 in 148 at-bats, he's been outstanding against lefties, slashing .379/.486/.776 in 58 at-bats.
Fedko will still likely get opportunities against righties, but probably not every game. With Royce Lewis holding down first base and Josh Bell surging at the plate, the Twins have been playing Kody Clemens in the outfield more often. Clemens has proved he's worth keeping in the lineup against lefties. Meanwhile, Larnach has just two hits in 23 at-bats against southpaws this year. Fedko can play in place of Larnach against lefties and be a solid pinch-hitter and pinch-runner option for Minnesota.
Outfielder Austin Martin will likely see much less playing time with Fedko on the big-league squad. Martin, a right-handed batter, began the season as a platoon hitter, but quickly forced his way into a regular playing role, taking over right field when Minnesota optioned Matt Wallner to Triple-A last month. Unfortunately, Martin has regressed significantly lately, collecting just 14 hits over 107 plate appearances since Wallner was demoted on May 14.
