The MLB offseason is always unpredictable. It's always exciting, and also reliably anxiety-inducing. All 30 clubs have a goal for the 2026 season, whether it's puzzle-piecing together a World Series contender, or completely rebuilding.
The Minnesota Twins are one of those teams that have not quite identified which direction they want to go in yet. So, with a murky set of goals, and what will likely be a chaotic offseason, comes wild rumors and predictions.
For example, one New York Mets account on X is all in on their team making a trade with the Twins. Fair enough. Both teams could probably benefit from one another. But this trade package is way too ridiculous for anyone online to take seriously —— never mind an MLB general manager themselves.
MET CAST TRADE PROPOSAL

Mets Receive:
- Byron Buxton (CF)
- Joe Ryan (SP)
Twins Receive:
- Brandon Nimmo
- $20 Million (Offsets Salary)
- Brandon Sproat (SP)
- Jacob Reimer (IF/OF, Mets #6 Prospect) pic.twitter.com/PsYeTOHiju
For starters, why would the Twins ever want Brandon Nimmo? He's older than Buxton, not to mention inferior to him in every aspect of the game. Buxton is an All-Star, a Platinum Glover, and a Silver Slugger. This part of the deal takes a lot away from making it a solid trade package. The $20 million included isn't enough to bring Nimmo up to par with Buxton, but it was worth a try. Dozens of people in the comments are siding with the Twins, too. They know the Mets would need to cough up plenty more.
Including Brandon Sproat and Jacob Reimer is where the fun begins. Yes, any team would be interested in acquiring these two prospects. But, if the Twins are going to trade away their ace and their best hitter/fielder, they need to see at least one Top 100 prospect in there. The Mets have four prospects in the MLB.com Top 100 (Nolan McLean, Carson Benge, Jett Williams, Jonah Tong). Let's see one or two of these names as part of a trade package, and then we're talking.
Could this be the season when we see Byron Buxton get traded? He has the power to choose where he goes, and he will want to play for a playoff contender. Buxton always wanted to be a career Twin, but if the roster continues to rebuild, he'll want out. If that happens, the Twins will need to be offered a steady set of prospects as part of a legitimate trade.
