The Minnesota Twins optioned right-handed reliever Woo-Suk Go to Triple-A St. Paul last week. He was supposed to make his Saints debut on Friday but was ejected for a foreign substance on his glove before throwing a pitch.

Go is now serving a mandatory 10-game suspension. Major and Minor League Baseball umpires began frequently inspecting pitchers for foreign substances between innings and after pitching changes during the 2021 season.
Minnesota acquired Go from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash on July 5. Because of a clause in Go's contract, the Twins had to immediately place the right-hander on their 26-man roster upon acquiring him. However, he still has options, giving Minnesota the luxury of optioning him to the minors.
Go made his MLB debut with the Twins this year. The 27-year-old allowed four earned runs on eight hits (two home runs) and two walks with five strikeouts in four innings across four relief appearances before being demoted to the minors.
The Twins optioned Go as a corresponding move to recalling right-hander Jack Anderson, whom the Twins claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox earlier this month. Minnesota recently sent Anderson back to the Saints to clear space for right-handed reliever Cole Sands, whom the Twins reinstated from the injured list.
Woo-Suk Go could make an impact for the Twins later in 2026
Since Go has options, the Twins will likely shuffle him between the Triple-A and MLB rosters throughout the rest of the year. When Minnesota needs a fresh arm, Go could be the next man up.
Obviously, it's not ideal that Go is serving a 10-game suspension. But realistically, a 10-game suspension for a reliever means roughly 2-4 games will be missed. During his suspension, Go can stay sharp by throwing bullpen sessions.
Go has dominated in the minors this year. In 27 appearances between Triple-A and Double-A, Go has posted a 1.96 ERA with a 0.82 WHIP and a remarkable 34.0% strikeout rate.
Go pitched in the KBO from 2017-23. He signed a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the San Diego Padres in January 2024.
San Diego traded Go to the Miami Marlins as part of the Luis Arraez trade on May 4, 2024. Go remained with the Marlins organization until being released on June 17, 2025. Roughly a week later, the Tigers signed Go to a minor-league deal. Detroit brought Go back on another minor-league contract this past offseason before dealing him to Minnesota on July 5.
