Somehow the Minnesota Twins were blessed by the baseball gods this week. Where the team has been eaten alive by the injury bug so far this season, a nightmare scenario was avoided after Carlos Correa left Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks early.

At the time it looked like Correa might have broken his arm or wrist after getting hit by a 94 mph pitch. He left the field with his arm elevated while shaking his head, slamming his helmet in the dugout on his way to the clubhouse. X-rays were negative, though, and the Twins listed him as day-to-day, which was not the break anyone was expecting to hear about.

Not only that, but Correa vowed to be back in the lineup on Friday night in Seattle, something he held true to his word on.

Correa was indeed back on the lineup card Friday night for the Twins series opener against the Mariners. Not only was he in the batting order hitting second, but he's back in the field as well starting at shortstop.

That's about as clear an indication of Correa being alright as it gets.

  1. Willi Castro, 2B
  2. Carlos Correa, SS
  3. Trevor Larnach, LF
  4. Royce Lewis, DH
  5. Carlos Santana, 1B
  6. Jose Miranda, 3B
  7. Max Kepler, RF
  8. Manuel Margot, CF
  9. Christian Vazquez, C

Correa returning to the lineup a day after taking a pitch to his wrist is one thing, but another interesting element of the Twins' lineup is Manuel Margot starting over Austin Martin. Minnesota is facing a right-handed pitchers on Friday night, which is why not having Martin in the lineup is a bit of a head scratcher.

Thursday was ultimately dominated by concern over Correa's arm, but the day was litereally won by rookie David Festa. Minnesota's top pitching prospect won his MLB debut, which is a performance that Bailey Ober (7-4, 4.50 ERA) will try to follow up.

Ober put together back-to-back stellar performances in his last two starts, combing for 18 strikeouts and tossing a complete game his last time out. Both of those games were against the A's, which helped, but it marked three straight starts in which the Twins earned a win after Ober began the game on the mound.

He's already faced Seattle once this year, and while he only lasted five innings he logged seven strikeouts and wasn't the reason Minnesota didn't pick up a win. He has a chance to rectify that on Friday night.

Speaking of which, Logan Gilbert (5-4, 2.71 ERA) will be out for some revenge against the Twins. In his last start against Minnesota, the usually reliable Gilbert was chased after allowing six runs over the first two innings.

That's not the way Gilbert usually looks, something his 0.89 WHIP suggests, and the Twins surging offense will have its work cut out against a pitcher looking for payback.
