As the hype dies down from the frenzy of Opening Day, everyone is trying to figure out what the lay of the land is across MLB.
While the dust is still settling in terms of how good or bad teams will be, it seems there's one thing that everyone has consensus on -- the new Nike designed, Fanatics manufactured uniforms are awful.
This is not breaking news, as we all saw these storm clouds building during Spring Training. That's when the new uniforms were unvieled and the backlash was immediate. From see-through bottoms to numbers and nameplates that look like youth jerseys, the new uniforms were roundly mocked and widely dispised.
Those feelings didn't go away once the season started, and each new issue only further drives home how much fans and players hate them. It's gotten to the point where it's hard to tell what's actually a gripe and what's parody, as the lines have been so aggressively blurred that it's almost hard to believe that we've reached this point.
For the most part, the Minnesota Twins have avoided some sort of major snafu. The home whites are a little see through but nothing nearly as bad as mismatched colors on the Rockies uniforms or the sweat rags that the Yankees are wearing.
However, the Twins did suffer one of the most embarrassing mistakes -- one that we literally cannot see.
Twins alternate uniforms are apparently 'missing' due MLB uniform issues
The Athletic ran an illuminating and scathing insider piece about just how disorganized the whole situation is and revealed that the Twins are among teams flat out missing uniforms.
If you're wondering why we haven't seen the 'Twin Cities' cream alternates it's not because the team hasn't decided to wear them yet, it's because no one in the organization currently knows where they are.
"Some teams, meanwhile, have not yet received their full suite of 2024 uniforms. The Twins are missing the pants for their cream “Twin Cities” uniforms. The Mariners wore home whites Sunday because their cream-colored uniforms aren’t in yet. The Cardinals were in road grays Sunday because neither of their Saturday alternates — ivory at home, victory blue on the road — had arrived," The Athletic reported.
Oof.
This debacle also seems to cast doubt over the Twins ever getting a City Connect uniform, something that was announced earlier this offseason but seems unlikely given the situation. The Twins are eventually going to get their cream uniforms and wear them -- and hopefully the streak of not looking terribe continues -- but who knows when that will be.
If MLB, Nike, and Fanatics are having this hard of a time getting the team uniforms that already exist, don't hold your breath for the team getting ones that still need to be made.
The whole thing is a giant cluster you-know-what, but with stuff like parts of uniform sets missing you have to just throw your hands up and laugh.
