Minnesota Twins 2024 MLB Draft guide: How to watch, schedule, order
Here's everything you need to know ahead of this year's MLB Draft.
We've finally reached the unofficial middle of the baseball season. While teams have already played half of their schedule, All-Star Weekend is when we cermoniously break the season in half.
It's more than just the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby going down, though. All-Star Weekend now includes the MLB Draft, something that has beenv very kind to the Minnesota Twins in recent years.
Minnesota was helped out by the new draft lottery last year, moving up from No. 13 to the Top 5 which allowed the Twins to take Walker Jenkins. There was an argument that he could have been the No. 1 pick in another year's draft, and the Twins were able to add him and instantly watch him soar to being the team's top prospect in the farm system.
Jenkins' selection came a year after Minnesota drafted Brooks Lee, who has already made his debut and is off to a fantastic start to his career. Royce Lewis and Byron Buxton were also first round picks for the Twins in years past and both are massive pillars of the franchise's future plans.
This year Minnesota doesn't have the luxury of picking high in the order, but their history of being able to draft well means fans absolutely still have a reason to tune in.

Minnesota Twins 2024 MLB Draft Position and Bonus Pool: Where Do the Astros Pick?
Unlike last season, the Twins didn't draw much luck in the draft order. They did move up, though, as some chaos involving the New York Yankees falling out of the lottery meant Minnesota jumped up a few spots to No. 21 overall.
It's still not as good as last year, but it's some nice revenge on the Yankees.
Unique to baseball is the bonus money that is assigned to each team which acts as a budget for what they can spend on players who get drafted. This year the Twins bonus pool is $12,209,600, which means they can spread that out across each of the picks they make.
MLB sets slot value for each pick, and a team can't exceed that value without incurring a penalty. The Twins picking No. 21 overall takes some of the drama out of things, as there's around $3.9 million attached to that pick.
Here's a look at the Twins slot money for the first handful of rounds this year:
Round (Pick) | Slot Money |
---|---|
Rd. 1 (Pick 21) | $3,934,400 |
Rd. 1 (Pick 33)* | $2,766,100 |
Rd. 2 (Pick 60) | $1,453,700 |
Comp. Round B (Pick 69) | $1,168,000 |
