Former Twins prospect traded to White Sox as part of Michael Kopech deal
He's back in the AL Central after the Twins traded him earlier this offseason.
While there are plenty of eyes on the Minnesota Twins and what the team plans on doing at the trade deadline, another AL Central team was at the heart of some storylines.
The Chicago White Sox have the potential to be historically bad this season, sitting in the basement of the AL Central with no hope other than to build for the future. That's something they did on Monday thanks to a fire sale everyone expected would happen before the deadline arrived.
Chicago made a series of trades, shipping off everyone from Erick Feddee to Tommy Pham, as well as reliever Michael Kopech. In return the Sox got a slew of young prospects to add to its farm system, including a name that Twins fans might be familiar with from a move earlier this offseason.
Former Twins prospect Noah Miller traded to White Sox as part of Michael Kopech deal
Back in February the Twins acquired Manuel Margot from the Los Angeles Dodgers, sending shortstop prospect Noah Miller out west. Miller is now back in the AL Central, as he was traded to Chicago as part of the Dodgers' return package for Kopech.
Ironically, the White Sox reportedly didn't want to deal with AL Central teams ahead of the deadline, but ended up with a Twins prospect nevertheless.
Miller wasn't a Top 20 prospect, but he was right on the cusp of being one when the Twins traded him. It wasn't a bad deal to make, even if hindsight suggests Minnesota should have gone in a different direction other than adding Margot.
Still, the Dodgers were able to turn Miller into part of a trade that landed them a pitcher who could help out in the postseason -- something the Twins are reportedly trying to do before Tuesday.
This might not be the last Minnesota hears from Los Angeles, as the Dodgers are reportedly interested in trading for Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi, one of the most consistent targets linked to the Twins these last few weeks. Trading for Kopech depletes some of the Dodgers' farm system resources though, so perhaps the White Sox inadvertently ended up helping Minnesota out when all is said and done.
