The Minnesota Twins system currently ranks second in MLB Pipleine’s organizational rankings but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a prospect that can break out in 2025.
While Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Luke Keaschall are entrenched at the top of MLB.com’s organizational rankings, outfielder Brandon Winokur could be the next in line as he looks to build off a strong 2024 season.
MLB.com picks Brandon Winokur to be the Minnesota Twins’ breakout prospect in 2025
Winokur was a third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and began his career on a strong note, hitting .288/.338/.546 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 17 games for the Florida Coast League Twins. Winokur’s first full professional season saw him hit .249/.327/.434 with 14 homers and 54 RBI but he also added speed to his game, stealing 23 bases on 29 attempts.
Winokur’s performance has him listed as the Twins’ No. 17 prospect coming into the season but MLB.com’s writeup featuring Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Sam Dykstra suggests there’s room for more this upcoming season.
“Winokur’s loud raw tools stood out in the 2023 draft, coming from a 6-foot-6 frame and that’s why the Twins went over slot to sign him for $1.5 million in the third round that summer. …If he can tighten things up a little bit, he could put up some huge numbers as he moves up.”
Winokur’s game still has some areas to improve including his approach at the plate. Winokur struck out 115 times for a 28 percent strikeout rate last season and his 34 walks suggest that he could use a little more patience.
Still, Winokur has a chance to join what’s becoming a loaded outfield stable in the Twins organization. Jenkins is the Twins No. 1 prospect and has a chance to be the top prospect in baseball at season’s end while Rodriguez, Gabriel Gonzalez and Yasser Mercedes are all in the pipeline heading into next season.
While Winokur is still projected for a 2027 major league debut, he has the chance to put himself on the map on a national scale this summer.
