The Minnesota Twins won't be playing in the postseason, but fans can at least watch several former players compete in the playoffs. Unfortunately, one of the most notable former Twins on a playoff team, Phillies second baseman Luis Arraez, won't be on Philadelphia's National League Wild Card Series roster after suffering a left ankle sprain on Thursday, according to The Athletic's Matt Gelb. The Phillies will play the Braves in the NLWC Series at Truist Park in Atlanta this week, with Game 1 slated to start at 1:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.
Luis Arraez will not be on the Wild Card Series roster. Otto Kemp is on. Phillies will go with three catchers still. They had several injuries in minors that depleted depth.

“We still get improvement every day, but not enough,” Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said about Arraez (via MLB.com). “He was going to try to hit today and just wasn't able to do it. So, we kind of crossed that bridge today.”
Utilityman Otto Kemp will take Arraez's spot on the Phillies' roster.
Arraez made his MLB debut with the Twins in 2019. He played for Minnesota through the 2022 season. After the 2022 season, Minnesota traded Arraez to the Miami Marlins for right-handed starting pitcher Pablo López.
During his four years with the Twins, Arraez posted 9.6 bWAR and a .314/.374/.410 slash line with 14 home runs and 132 RBI over 389 games. In his final year with the Twins, Arraez finished 13th in AL MVP voting, made the AL All-Star Team and won a Silver Slugger Award and the batting title.
Arraez has been on several teams since leaving Minnesota. He won the batting title and led the NL in hits in his first season with the Marlins. Miami traded Arraez to the San Diego Padres in May 2024.
Arraez remained with the Padres through the 2025 season, then became a free agent. He posted 2.3 bWAR and a .304/.336/.395 slash line over 271 games with San Diego.
Former Twin Luis Arraez had strong 2026 season with Giants, Phillies
The infielder signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the San Francisco Giants over the offseason. He posted 3.0 bWAR and a .324/.360/.440 slash line with San Francisco before being traded to Philadelphia at the trade deadline, marking the third time Arraez had been traded in his career.
Last offseason, Arraez made it clear he would only sign with a team that allowed him to play second base full time. The Giants granted his wish. Surprisingly, Arraez posted +12 Outs Above Average at second base this year. Entering this season, he had -36 OAA at second base throughout his career.
After joining the Phillies, Arraez hit .278/.309/.369 with two home runs and 21 RBI over 46 games.
