Twins manager Derek Shelton's finalized coaching staff includes Toby Gardenhire, ex-Giants coach Mark Hallberg
The Minnesota Twins announced the 2026 coaching staff for new manager Derek Shelton on Friday. They named Toby Gardenhire as major league field coordinator, Mark Hallberg as bench coach, Keith Beauregard as hitting coach, LaTroy Hawkins as bullpen coach, Grady Sizemore as first base/outfield/baserunning coach and Mike Rabelo as assistant bench coach.
The returning coaches are Pete Maki as pitching coach, Luis Ramirez as assistant pitching coach, Rayden Sierra and Trevor Amicone as assistant hitting coaches and Ramon Borrego in a new role as third base coach.
Gardenhire, the son of former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, served as the manager for Triple-A St. Paul the past five seasons after one year as manager with Single-A Fort Myers (2019) and one year as the skipper for Single-A Cedar Rapids (2018). He had a 508-488 record as a minor-league manager.
Hallberg has been on the San Francisco Giants coaching staff for the last six seasons. He started as a fundamentals coach for the Giants’ Short-Season A Salem-Keizer team in 2018 before managing the club in 2019. Then, he spent two years as third base coach (2022-23) and two seasons as first base coach (2024-25). Before his coaching career, he played five seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks system (2007-11).
Beauregard, 42, spent the last three seasons as one of the Detroit Tigers' hitting coaches along with Michael Brdar before parting ways with the organization. Beauregard began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant coach with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks. He also served as a bench coach for the Pittsfield Colonials in the Can-Am Association during the summer of 2011.
In 2013, Beauregard became an assistant coach at Santa Clara University in California. He held the position through the 2017 season. After Santa Clara changed head coaches in 2018, the Los Angeles Dodgers hired Beauregard as a hitting coach for the AZL Dodgers Lasorda. Eventually, Beauregard earned the title of minor league assistant field coordinator with the Dodgers before being hired by the Tigers.
Maki has been with the Twins since 2017, starting as the team's minor league pitching coordinator before taking over the bullpen coach duties in 2020. He held the bullpen coach title until pitching coach Wes Johnson shockingly left the Twins for Louisiana State University during the 2022 season, leading to Maki's promotion to pitching coach.
Sizemore, 43, made three All-Star teams and won two Gold Glove Awards with the Cleveland Indians. He worked for the Chicago White Sox's coaching staff for the past two seasons.
Rabelo spent six seasons on the Pittsburgh Pirates coaching staff under Shelton. He served as their major league field coordinator (2021-25), third base coach (2022-25) and assistant hitting coach (2020). Before Pittsburgh, Rabelo managed and coached for nine seasons in the Tigers' system.
Hawkins has been a special assistant to the Twins' baseball operations department for the last nine seasons. He played 21 years in MLB, including nine seasons with the Twins.
