  • Sean Poppen promoted to Chattanooga to start Thursday night

Cleveland Indians 9, Minnesota Twins 8

The Twins almost did the impossible by erasing an eight-run deficit but just couldn’t finish the job for a second night in a row. Jake Odorizzi became the second Twins starter in a row to struggle as he went 3.2 innings and allowed 7 earned runs (8 total). Logan Morrison, Eduardo Escobar, and Miguel Sano all hit home runs as the Twins surged back into the game. In the end, a Francisco Lindor home run secured an Indians victory on Thursday night.

June 1st Probable Starter: Carlos Carrasco vs. Jose Berrios at 7:10 PM CT

Rochester Red Wings 5, Durham Bulls 4

The Red Wings completed the series sweep of the Durham Bulls winning 5-4 on Thursday. Dietrich Enns got the start and went 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts. Jake Cave, Kennys Vargas, and Taylor Featherston each had two hits with one of those being a home run to lead the Red Wings offensive attack.

June 1st Probable Starter: Adalberto Mejia vs. Norfolk Tides 6:05 PM CT

Chattanooga Lookouts 0, Birmingham Barons 3

Thursday was a day dominated by pitchers. Sean Poppen while making his first start as a part of the Chattanooga rotation happened to be the one pitcher to make a mistake. In the first inning, Poppen gave up a three-run home run and would go on to pitch 4.2 innings and record six strikeouts. Tyler Jay would follow Poppen with 2.1 innings allowing two hits, two walks, and tossed three strikeouts. Williams Ramirez struck out the side in his one inning of work.

June 1st Probable Starter: Anthony Marzi vs. Birmingham Barons at 7:05 PM CT

More from Puckett's Pond

Fort Myers Miracle 1, Clearwater Threshers 6

One bad inning from Miracle starter Clark Beeker was all Clearwater needed to capitalize on and get a win. Beeker went 6.0 innings and allowed all four runs he gave up in the 3rd inning. Jimmy Kerrigan hit a double as he was 1-for-4 for the game. Lewin Diaz drove in Mitchell Kranson for Fort Myers’ only run.

June 1st Probable Starter: TBD vs. St. Lucie Mets at 6:00 PM CT

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7, Cedar Rapids Kernels 2

The Timber Rattlers were able to avoid a series sweep by winning the final game of the series 7-2. Jose Miranda kept his good hitting going from the game before as he went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Royce Lewis also went 2-for-4. It seems like only a matter at time until Lewis who is now hitting .316 or Alex Kirilloff who is hitting .319 get promotions.

Bert Blyleven traded to Rangers in 1976

It was on this day in 1976 that the Twins traded disgruntled Bert Blyleven to the Texas Rangers. It was just the day before that Blyleven walked off the mound while giving the middle finger to someone in the stands. Blyleven and Danny Thompson headed to the Rangers in exchange for Mike Cubbage, Jim Gideon, Bill Singer, and another Twins television analyst Roy Smalley.
