The Minnesota Twins made significant upgrades to the roster this Winter. The Twins are ready to improve upon last season’s playoff berth, and have a bright future ahead.

However, according to reports, Minnesota Twins Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey indicated that he doesn’t see Minnesota making anymore moves this Spring. The Twins front office has done enough to position this team to contend this season, raising the excitement level as we approach Opening Day.

The Twins strengthened the back-end of the bullpen by signing Zach Duke, Addison Reed, and Fernando Rodney. That trio will help an already solid bullpen cover for any deficiencies in the rotation. Minnesota also acquired Logan Morrison and his left-handed bat should help this line-up.

What this means for 2018

The Minnesota Twins will still be in the market to add pieces during the 2018 season. This team has playoff aspirations and still has enough assets to make a trade during the season. The Twins still have questions in the rotation and will need to make a move to stay in contention.

More from Puckett's Pond

It would have been exciting if the Twins signed Yu Darvish or made a blockbuster trade this Winter. However, the moves made this offseason leave the team a lot of flexibility for the future. They have a Top-15 ranked Minor League system and are well positioned to acquire an Ace if the right deal comes along.

They made a run at Darvish and even Shohei Otani, but came up empty and that’s okay. Sometimes instead of thinking about what you didn’t get, you have to think about what you didn’t end up with, in the future. Nobody questions Otani’s potential and he would have been a star for the Twins. However, Darvish is a risky signing and Minnesota will be glad they won’t be weighed down by his contract moving forward.

This will be an exciting season for the Minnesota Twins and fans can’t wait for Opening Day. The front office has done enough to keep the Twins in thick of the playoff race during this season. Now, it’s all about the results on the field.
