Elizabethton Twins 13, Johnson City Cardinals 12 (10)
The day after a pitcher’s duel, the Twins and Cardinals had a crazy offensive game, with the Cardinals tying the ball game in the top of the ninth inning at 12 apiece before the Twins walked off with a win in the 10th inning. Huascar Ynoa had a rough start, going just 2 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits and 5 walks, striking out 2. Brent Rooker was on base six times in the game with three singles and three walks. Shane Carrier had a double and a pair of singles. J.J. Robinson had a home run and 5 RBI. Andrew Bechtold added a long ball of his own.

GCL Twins 13, GCL Orioles 1
The Twins scored a huge blowout win. Brusdar Graterol showed the promise that he’d flashed previously over 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks, striking out 4. Matt Jones threw 4 innings for the rare 4-inning save. Royce Lewis had a home run, two singles, and stole a base. Benjamin Rodriguez had his biggest offensive game in the Twins system, with a home run and two doubles, driving in 7 runs. Ricky De La Torre had three singles and stole a base.

DSL Mets1 3, DSL Twins 1
The Twins will be glad to move on beyond the Mets1 squad as they’ve rolled over most the rest of the DSL this summer so far but dropped their second straight to the Mets1 on Monday. Fredderi Soto got the start, going 4 innings, allowing a run on 7 hits and no walks, striking out 2. Robert Gutierrez threw two perfect innings of relief, with three strikeouts. Yeremi De La Cruz had one of only 3 Twins hits, and he had the only extra base hit with a double.

One Last Thing
While not even my minor league player of the day, Brent Rooker’s day in Elizabethton made me look up how many Twins had ever been on base as many times in a single game.
Twenty-two players have been on base at least 6 times in a single game in Minnesota Twins history, with Kirby Puckett, Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, and Bob Allison accomplishing the feat twice.
The most times on base (including reaching on error) in a single game in Twins history is Rod Carew in a game on May 12th, 1972, when he had 5 hits and 3 walks (2 of them intentional) in a 4-3 loss against the Brewers. Two of Carew’s hits were doubles, and he drove in a pair of runs.
