The Twins are currently 1.5 games back of the Texas Rangers for the second Wild Card spot in the American League. The Rangers start a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners tonight as the Twins are set to take on the American League Central leading, and best team in the American League, the Kansas City Royals.

The Twins are 5-8 against the Royals this year, including a 3-4 mark at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals have lost three in a row and will look to get back on track tonight against Tommy Milone.

Milone pitched seven scoreless innings in his last start against the Chicago White Sox and has been solid since coming off the disabled list in the middle of August.

Players to Watch

1. Kyle Gibson is 2-2 with a 2.81 earned run average against the Royals this year. He’s 1-1 with a 2.08 earned run average at Kauffman Stadium this season. Gibson will get the start in the second game of the three-game series. Gibson has a good track record against the Royals and the Twins will need him to have another solid outing Tuesday night.

2. Joe Mauer is hitting .444 at Kauffman Stadium this season. He has two doubles, a home run and three RBIs in seven games there this season.

3. Kurt Suzuki is starting to heat up. He’s hitting .333 over his last seven games. His batting average is up to .241 and hopefully by the end of the season it will be back near his career average of .256.
