The Minnesota Twins have optioned designated hitter and first baseman, Kenny Vargas to Double-A Chattanooga. The corresponding move will be announced tomorrow. Let the speculation on which player will replace him commence.
The most popular option is the slugging third baseman, Miguel Sano. Sano has been white hot as of late and could serve as the Twins everyday designated hitter. The Twins number two prospect has hit 15 home runs in Double-A and is coming off a week when he hit over .500.
Another popular choice is Max Kepler. Kepler, the Twins number 14 overall prospect is hitting .336 in Double-A. He can play all three outfield spots and has seen time at first base. Over the past 10 games he’s hitting .474 with nine RBIs.
Oswaldo Arcia is another option. Arcia had a four-hit performance in Triple-A today. He drove in three runs and also hit a home run. Arica, like Sano has raw power, but is a liability in the field.
Of course the most logical option could be center fielder, Aaron Hicks. Hicks had his best performance in his rehab starts today for Triple-A Rochester. Hicks went 3-4 at the plate and could be in line to rejoin the Twins tomorrow.
Every member of Twins territory is hoping that it’s Sano. They’ve already gotten a glimpse of Byron Buxton and Alex Meyer. Now they want to see the slugging third baseman at the big league level.
