The World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT on Friday at American Family Field in Milwaukee. The Fall Classic will be broadcast on FOX. The Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians in six games in the American League Championship Series, and the Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the National League Championship Series.

The Twins brass should keep their eyes on the World Series. Not just because it should be a great World Series between the top teams from each league, but because Minnesota should target two of the players participating in the Fall Classic this offseason.

2 World Series players Minnesota Twins should target this offseason

C Gary Sánchez - Milwaukee Brewers

With Ryan Jeffers likely leaving in free agency, the Twins will need to add another catcher. Assuming Jeffers doesn't accept a qualifying offer, Minnesota will have just one backstop, Victor Caratini, on its 40-man roster once the offseason begins.

Sánchez appears to be a perfect short-term fit for the Twins. He and Caratini could split time at catcher until top prospect Vahn Lackey is ready for the majors. Lackey, the 2026 No. 3 overall pick, could be ready for his MLB debut as soon as late 2027, so it doesn't make much sense for the Twins to sign a catcher to a long-term deal this offseason.

Sánchez played for the Twins in 2022. He was part of the Josh Donaldson trade with the New York Yankees. The veteran catcher had a solid regular season with Milwaukee, slashing .209/.349/.422 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI in 275 plate appearances. He has had just one postseason plate appearance so far.

SP Freddy Peralta - Tampa Bay Rays

If the Twins aren't planning to extend Joe Ryan or Pablo López, they should attempt to sign Peralta to a long-term deal. The right-hander played for the Brewers for eight years (2018-25) before being traded to the New York Mets this past offseason. He struggled with New York, posting a 4.99 ERA over 22 starts, but turned his season around after the Rays acquired him at the trade deadline.

Peralta finished the regular season with a 3.25 ERA over 10 starts for Tampa Bay. He has been lights-out in the playoffs so far, allowing only two earned runs in 16 2/3 innings across four outings (three starts).
