We officially have a 2026 World Series champion. With a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Brewers completed a 4-1 World Series victory, marking the franchise's first championship.

Good for Milwaukee! Many Twins fans feel like their favorite team is never good. But at least they won the World Series in 1987 and 1991. Brewers fans had it much worse until yesterday, as the team had never reached the ultimate goal.

We Minnesota fans can also be happy for two former Twins players who earned their first career World Series rings.

2 former Twins players win World Series with Brewers

Former Twins right-hander Trevor Megill and catcher Gary Sánchez won the World Series with Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Megill, 32, recorded the final out of the Fall Classic, getting Richie Palacios to ground out to second baseman Brice Turang.

Megill allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks over nine innings this postseason. He collected 11 strikeouts.

Since being acquired by the Brewers from the Twins in April 2023, Megill has become one of Milwaukee's best relievers. The righty has been Milwaukee's primary closer since 2024.

In his four years with the Brewers, Megill has posted a 2.80 ERA with 231 strikeouts over 189 2/3 innings. He has a career 1.65 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 16 postseason outings.

Now let's talk about Sánchez, 33. The catcher had just two plate appearances in this year's playoffs. With two outs and two runners on base in the ninth inning of NLDS Game 2, Sánchez worked a walk, allowing Jackson Chourio to hit a two-run walk-off single. If Sánchez hadn't reached base, the Brewers would've lost the game and possibly the series. He had one plate appearance in the World Series and made an out.

The Twins acquired Sánchez and infielder Gio Urshela from the Yankees in March 2022 for third baseman Josh Donaldson, utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa and catcher Ben Rortvedt. In his lone season with Minnesota (2022), Sánchez hit .205/.282/.377 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI over 128 games.

Before joining the Twins, Sánchez spent seven seasons with the Yankees. With New York, Sánchez made two All-Star Teams and hit 138 home runs.

After the 2022 season, Sánchez bounced around the league, playing for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles and Brewers. He had a solid 2026 season at the plate, hitting .209/.349/.422 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI.
