facebooktwitterreddit

After losing two of three to the Milwaukee Brewers the Minnesota Twins head to Cincinnati to take on the Reds in a three-game series. The Reds have lost three straight and are currently 16 games out of first place in the National League Central.

The Twins have struggled this month going 10-16 and winning only one series. They are currently 5.5 games back of the Kansas City Royals for first place in the American League Central. The Twins will look to finish the first half of the season strong and that starts with getting the series win against the Reds.

3 Players to Watch

  1. Phil Hughes will get the start for the Twins in the second game of the series. He has pitched four straight quality starts and the Twins have won the last three games he’s pitched. In his last two starts Hughes has pitched a combined 16 innings and given up just two runs. After a rough start, Hughes is now 6-6 with a 4.20 earned run average.
  2. In his last start Trevor May recorded just one out. He gave up five earned runs on six hits against the Brewers. He will look to rebound against the Reds on Tuesday. With Ervin Santana set to return on the 5th, May needs to leave a good last impression. He has pitched well as of late; he’s pitched six or more innings in six of his last eight starts. But, another bad start could leave a sour taste in Paul Molitors mouth.
  3. Alex Meyer’s big league career got off to a rocky start. Meyer pitched 1.2 innings of relief on Friday and gave up four earned runs on three hits and two home runs.
