Minnesota Twins: Monthly Awards

The Minnesota Twins did not start the Paul Molitor era off with a bang. It looked like a train-wreck. They started off the season by getting swept by the Detroit Tigers. A series in which they were outscored, 22-1. They then dropped two of three against the Chicago White Sox. They were embarrassed during their home opener by the Kansas City Royals, losing 12-3.

Since losing their home opener at Target Field they’ve gone, 9-6 and currently sit in third place in the AL Central. They play their next seven games at Target Field and have a chance to get over the .500 mark.

What player has been the MVP for the Twins during the first month of the season? Who has been the biggest disappointment?

MVP-Joe Mauer

The former MVP has enjoyed a stellar first month of the season. Mauer is hitting .318 with 13 RBIs. He’s hit safely in 17 of the 22 games. In the past ten games he’s hitting .366 with nine RBIs, five doubles and one triple. The past two games Mauer has gone 6-10 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. After a rough 2014 campaign, it’s nice to see Mauer get off to a hot start in 2015.

Disappointment-Torii Hunter

The honeymoon is over. All the excitement about Hunter returning to the Twins is now gone. Hunter has shown glimpses of his younger self in the outfield doing it with the glove. But, that .205 batting average is about as painful as watching Hunter strike out on pitches out of the zone. It’s still early and Hunter has had some nice stretches at the dish. During the middle of the month Hunter had a seven game hitting streak.
