Friday night's game between the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium has been delayed in the third inning due to thunderstorms in the area. The score is tied 1-1.
Second baseman Kody Clemens gave the Twins a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run off Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole. New York quickly responded, as center fielder Trent Grisham tied the game on a solo homer off right-hander Mike Paredes in the bottom of the first.
Besides the homer he allowed to Clemens, Cole has had a strong start so far in New York. Over three innings, the 35-year-old right-hander has allowed just two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Meanwhile, Grisham's home run is the only hit Paredes has allowed tonight. The rookie hasn't allowed any walks, either, in two innings of work.
If this ends up being a long delay, the Twins and Yankees may have to go to their bullpens earlier than they'd like.
We will provide you with any updates on the delay as we receive them. Until the game resumes, you can watch the St. Paul Saints' game, where Ryan Jeffers is in the lineup as the designated hitter to begin his rehab assignment. As of 7:00 p.m. CDT, St. Paul leads 1-0 after top prospect Walker Jenkins hit a solo home run. Jeffers collected a single in his first plate appearance.
