Twins vs. Dodgers Rain Delay, June 23: Latest updates on the weather delay and when the game should start

The start of tonight's game between the Minnesota Twins (38-42, third in AL Central) and Los Angeles Dodgers (50-29, first in NL West) at Target Field has been delayed due to rain. The matchup was originally slated to begin at 6:40 p.m. CDT. Luckily, the game is expected to be delayed for just 25 minutes, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT, the Twins announced.

Joe Ryan was originally scheduled to start tonight but will now oppose Shohei Ohtani on the mound tomorrow due to an illness. Left-hander Kendry Rojas is now the scheduled starter today in what appears to be a bullpen game for Minnesota. The Twins prepared for tonight's bullpen game by calling up a fresh arm in veteran right-hander Austin Voth from Triple-A St. Paul. Meanwhile, left-hander Justin Wrobleski, who has a 2.72 ERA in 79 1/2 innings this season, is slated to start for Los Angeles.

The Twins are aiming to avoid a series loss tonight, as the Dodgers took Game 1 of the three-game set by a score of 2-1 on Monday night. Byron Buxton homered for Minnesota, while Ohtani and Freddie Freeman both hit solo homers.

Even though tonight's game is only supposed to be delayed for 25 minutes, the forecast suggests there could be another delay later in the game. If the rain proves to be too much for a complete game to be played tonight, both Minnesota and Los Angeles have off days on Thursday, so they could finish the game on Thursday unless both sides would prefer to play a doubleheader tomorrow. For the convenience of both squads, let's just hope they can get the whole game in tonight. If the matchup ends up being delayed again, we will provide you with updates.
