Game 1 of a three-game series between the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals at Target Field has entered a rain delay in the top of the fourth inning. The Cardinals currently lead the game 3-1.
First baseman Alec Burelson gave St. Louis an early 1-0 lead by hitting a solo homer off Twins ace Joe Ryan in the first inning. Minnesota responded quickly as star center fielder Byron Buxton tied the game with a 425-foot solo shot, his 21st home run of the season, to center off right-hander Kyle Leahy in the bottom of the first.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals reclaimed the lead in the second inning; Blaze Jordan hit an RBI single, his first career MLB hit, to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead, then JJ Wetherholt increased the Cardinals' lead to 3-1 with an RBI single.
Ryan has had a rough start thus far, allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks over three innings. Meanwhile, Leahy has allowed just one run on two hits and no walks in two innings. Since both pitchers have already thrown multiple innings, there's a good chance both teams will pivot to the bullpen if the delay takes a while.
*Update: Game to resume at 8:30 p.m. CDT*
Was that the shortest rain delay of all time? The Twins announced the game is expected to resume at 8:30 p.m. CDT, just 24 minutes after the delay began. Luckily, Ryan will remain in the game.
