The Minnesota Twins have optioned right-handed reliever Travis Adams to Triple-A St. Paul, according to the team's transaction log. The corresponding move has yet to be announced.
After throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings across three appearances, Adams had an ugly outing against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, allowing five earned runs on four hits (two homers) and two walks in one inning. Adams quickly bounced back, hurling a scoreless inning with a strikeout against the White Sox on Thursday. Overall, Adams has a 7.20 ERA with 12 strikeouts and five walks across 10 big-league innings this season.
Adams, who began the season on the IL with a right triceps strain, will likely return to the majors later in the season. Adams holds a career 7.42 ERA in 43 2/3 innings dating back to 2025. Even though the 26-year-old righty's MLB stats are rough, he held a decent 3.38 ERA this season before his disastrous Wednesday outing.
Who will take Adams' roster spot?
Candidates to take Adams' roster spot include Kody Funderburk, John Klein and Cody Laweryson.
My money is on Laweryson.

Funderburk had a 2.82 ERA and 5.44 FIP over 16 innings before being optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. Since being demoted, the lefty has allowed five earned runs in five innings.
Klein had a cup of coffee in the big leagues earlier this month, throwing a scoreless inning against the Toronto Blue Jays in his debut and allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Washington Nationals before being sent back to Triple-A. Since being optioned, Klein has surrendered five earned runs with 16 strikeouts across 12 1/3 innings.
Meanwhile, Laweryson has surrendered six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts across 4 2/3 innings during his rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul, which began on May 16. He allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings with Minnesota this season before landing on the IL with a right forearm strain on April 11.
After losing three of four games against the White Sox in Chicago, the Twins look to bounce back in a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park this weekend. Game 1 of the series is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. CDT on Friday. Right-handed starting pitcher Taj Bradley is scheduled to start for Minnesota. Right-handed starting pitcher Jared Jones, who hasn't made an MLB appearance since Sept. 27, 2024, due to undergoing a UCL internal brace procedure, is slated to start for Pittsburgh. The game will be available to stream on Apple TV.
