Minnesota Twins controlling owner Tom Pohlad spoke with the media in an end-of-season press conference on Tuesday. General manager Jeremy Zoll and manager Derek Shelton also addressed reporters at the media session.

The fact that Zoll and Shelton were both at the media session proves they aren't going anywhere. No one really expected Shelton, whom the Twins hired last offseason, to leave the team. However, the Twins hired him when Derek Falvey led the baseball operations department, so some may have speculated there was a small chance the new leaders of the organization would want someone else managing the club.

Zoll's status was far more uncertain after the season ended. The Twins and Falvey parted ways less than a month before spring training, and Zoll stepped up to lead the baseball operations department on short notice. Zoll already held the general manager position before Falvey left. He still has the same title, just now he is in charge of baseball operations.

Given how quickly Zoll was thrust into leading baseball operations, many speculated whether the Twins would find someone else to lead the department at the end of the season. Clearly, Minnesota plans to keep Zoll in his role.

SKOR North's Declan Goff attended the press conference and confirmed that both Zoll and Shelton aren't going anywhere. Pohlad assured the media that he, Zoll and Shelton are “philosophically aligned.” Pohlad said that Zoll will remain in charge with several assistants.

The Twins made a leadership change this offseason, firing pitching coach Pete Maki and assistant pitching coach Luis Ramirez earlier this week. But the rest of the coaching staff and front office appear to be keeping their jobs for 2027.

Maki had held the pitching coach role since 2022. He earned the job when Rocco Baldelli managed the team. Now, Shelton will have a say in who becomes the new pitching coach.

During the press conference, Pohlad made it clear he wants to be competitive next year. He said the same last offseason, but the team entered the season with its lowest payroll in over a decade.

This time around, Pohlad specifically acknowledged that the team needs to increase spending to be competitive and said he's prepared to provide the front office the resources it needs to improve the roster. Many fans have a hard time believing the Pohlads, but it's still encouraging to hear Tom acknowledge that the Twins need to increase payroll to return to the playoffs.
