First, it was Pablo López. Then, it was Zebby Matthews. Then, it was Bailey Ober. Now, another starting pitcher joins the club of Twins landing on the injured list this year.

Twins place right-handed starting pitcher David Festa on 15-day IL, recall righty pitcher Travis Adams from Triple-A St. Paul

Minnesota placed Festa on the 15-day Injured list (retroactive to July 22) with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced. In 11 outings for the Twins this season, Festa has gone 3-4 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 19 walks in 53 ⅓ innings pitched.

Festa rivaled Shohei Ohtani on the mound on Monday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, surrendering four earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five in 5 ⅓ innings of work en route to suffering the loss as the Dodgers won 5-2.

This is Adams’ third stint with the Twins this season. His first stint featured zero in-game appearances, but he made three outings during his second time around in the big leagues, surrendering six earned runs on 12 hits and one walk while striking out six in nine innings of work.

Adams’ second demotion to Triple-A this season occurred on Saturday as a corresponding move to Minnesota reinstating Zebby Matthews, who suffered the loss against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday after giving up five earned runs on eight hits and one walk, from the injured list. Adams, who MLB Pipeline lists as the Twins’ No. 21 prospect, has a 3.68 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 58 strikeouts and 20 walks in 63 ⅔ innings with Triple-A St. Paul this year.

Rubber match between Twins and Dodgers scheduled for Wednesday afternoon

After tying the series 1-1 by winning 10-7 on Tuesday night, the Twins will face the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 3 of the three-game set at 3:10 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Righty Chris Paddack is expected to start on the mound for Minnesota, and righty Tyler Glasnow is slated to make the start for Los Angeles.
