Trevor Larnach day-to-day after being scratched with left side soreness

The Twins scratched Larnach from Sunday's lineup due to left side soreness, the Twins announced. He is considered day-to-day, and won't return to Minnesota's lineup until after Wednesday's off day, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune's Bobby Nightengale.

Austin Martin dealing with concussion symptoms

After Martin, playing in right field, failed a diving catch attempt in the third inning of Monday's spring training game, the outfielder stayed in the game and hit a single and scored in the bottom half of the inning before being removed due to concussion-like symptoms, per Nightengale. Martin won't do any baseball activities for the next two days and will be reevaluated again, manager Derek Shelton said.

Martin seemed like a slam-dunk to make the Opening Day roster before leaving yesterday's game. If he has to begin the season on the injured list, Alan Roden may find himself on the Opening Day roster. Roden has had a strong spring, but given the abundance of left-handed hitting outfielders on the roster, he still likely won't be on the 26-man roster to begin the season unless Martin is sidelined.

Even if Martin begins the season on the IL, the Twins may prefer to have an outfielder who bats from the right side on the roster in place of Martin. If that's the case, then Eric Wagaman, who can play left field, first and third base, has a good chance to crack the Opening Day roster. Last season, Wagaman slashed .283/.321/.462 over 173 at-bats against southpaws as a member of the Miami Marlins.

Twins reassign Grant Hartwig, Julian Merryweather to minor-league camp

Right-handed pitchers Hartwig and Merryweather have left the Twins' big-league camp, the team announced.

Hartwig, 28, has had a rough spring training, posting a 9.82 ERA over 7 1/3 innings. The Twins signed him to a minor-league deal after the New York Mets released him in late June. Hartwig had a 4.84 ERA over 35 1/3 innings pitched during his rookie season (2023). He last appeared in the majors in 2024, where the righty posted a 6.75 ERA across 6 2/3 innings.

As for Merryweather, the former Cub made just one appearance this spring, which he left due to a left hamstring strain. The righty has since thrown bullpen sessions, per Twins Daily's Cody Christie.

Hartwig could find himself on Minnesota's 26-man roster at some point if several injuries occur. However, Merryweather, who posted a 3.38 ERA over 72 innings with the Cubs in 2023, is probably higher in the pecking order.
