When it comes to All-Star-level players signing massive free agent deals, what teams do we initially think of? The Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Padres are always one of the first few clubs that come to mind, and deservingly so. Those franchises have landed some serious superstar talent over the last few years, but let's not forget about the Twins just yet with one specific player.
Minnesota is no stranger to handing out bigger contracts to slugging infielders. Remember Josh Donaldson? He was given a four-year, $92 million deal a few years back before getting traded halfway through the contract. Or how about Carlos Correa? The Twins were prepared to give him the world before getting sent back to his original team in Houston.
The Twins have a recent history of spending big on these kind of players. So, enter Bo Bichette. The 27-year-old shortstop just had a bounce-back season with the Toronto Blue Jays, which was just in time for him to become a heavily sought-after free agent.
Several high-rolling clubs are interested in him, but don't count out the Twins to go after the clutch World Series shortstop.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has the Twins as one of 10 teams in the mix for Bichette, who just drove in 94 runs this past season across 139 games. As it stands, Brooks Lee would be the shortstop for Minnesota next season, who handed in a -0.8 bWAR, but a low strikeout rate. Lee isn't quite Bichette, and that's fine. But the team needs to find a way to pique Bichette's interest.
Minnesota has a lot of strong pieces to the puzzle already on the roster like Silver Slugger Byron Buxton, Royce Lewis, Joe Ryan, and Pablo López. It's not like Bichette would be joining a losing team, although the Twins did a lot of that in 2025.
The projections are much stronger for this team in 2026, and with a new manager at the helm, that could mean good things are to come. Players enjoy competing under newer coaches with a refreshed approach to an organization, so hopefully Derek Shelton can do enough to convince Bichette that the Twins are a desirable destination for free agents. We'll hold out a shred of hope for this to actually happen, but you never know.
