The New York Mets are interested in hiring former Minnesota Twins president Derek Falvey, according to MLB reporter Michael Marino. MLB Network's Jim Duquette confirmed Marino's report. It's unclear exactly what role the Mets are interested in hiring Falvey for. It's worth noting that Falvey once worked with current Mets president David Stearns for the Cleveland Indians.

The Twins "mutually" parted ways with Falvey over the offseason after Tom Pohlad succeeded his younger brother Joe as the organization's controlling owner. It's unclear exactly why both sides decided to part ways, but one would assume it's mainly because Falvey and Tom Pohlad didn't see eye to eye.
Tom made it clear he wanted to compete now despite a lack of big offseason moves. Maybe Falvey knew the team was further away from competing, and if that's the case, he was proven right this year as the Twins were eliminated from postseason contention over the weekend.

Twins fans have mixed feelings on Falvey. On one hand, he led the Twins to four postseason berths, including the 101-win 2019 season. On the other hand, the Twins missed the postseason five of the nine seasons with Falvey in charge.
Falvey certainly made some big signings, including Carlos Correa, but he never made enough big moves to really push the Twins over the hump. He made some great trades, including the Nelson Cruz-Joe Ryan swap with the Tampa Bay Rays, but also made some not-so-great trades, including the Tyler Mahle deal with the Reds. Falvey also failed to make impactful trade deadline moves, especially during the historic 2019 season, when the team really could've used starting-pitching help.
Falvey certainly is smart. He's made it as far as he has in the baseball world for a reason, and the Mets are interested in his services for a reason. It'll be interesting to see whether he can land with the Mets and then move into another president/GM role with a different organization.
The Mets have had a disastrous season, to say the least. New York entered Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers with a 71-85 record, the worst mark in the National League East. Despite being in last place in their division, the Mets rank second in MLB payroll at roughly $344 million, about $30 million shy of the Los Angeles Dodgers' payroll. One would think Stearns would be on the hot seat if another disappointing season ensues.
