Twins swap right-handed pitchers in latest roster shuffle
The Twins have called up journeyman reliever Noah Davis, whom Minnesota acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations on July 15, the team announced. Minnesota demoted pitcher Pierson Ohl, who made his MLB debut as a starting pitcher on Tuesday, to Triple-A St. Paul as a corresponding move.

Ohl, 25, struggled in his first MLB outing on Tuesday, suffering the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits (one home run) and one walk as the Red Sox beat the Twins 8-5 at Target Field. Even if Ohl pitched better on Tuesday, he likely would have ended up being demoted to give the Twins a fresh bullpen arm anyway, as Bailey Ober will likely join the rotation soon. Ober still not being on the 26-man roster also means Davis’s time with the Twins will most likely be limited.
Who is Noah Davis, whom the Twins acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers?
Since Davis, 28, made his MLB debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2022, he has posted an 8.95 ERA and 2.01 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 28 walks in 23 games (six starts) across 57 ⅓ innings in the major leagues. He stayed with the Colorado organization before signing a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox in the 2024-25 offseason and getting traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers a few months later.
Davis pitched two no-hit innings over two outings with Triple-A St. Paul after being traded by Los Angeles. He had a 3.94 ERA, 38 strikeouts and 15 walks with Triple-A Oklahoma City this year. He pitched in five games for the Dodgers this season, allowing 14 runs (13 earned) on 10 hits (three homers) and five walks while striking out eight batters in six innings.
As mentioned earlier in the article, Davis's time with the Twins will likely be short. The team has frequently swapped relievers after one takes on a large chunk of innings to have as many fresh arms as possible.

The final game of the three-game series between Minnesota and Boston is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Target Field. Zebby Matthews is expected to make the start on the mound for the Twins, and Bryan Bello is slated to start for the Red Sox.
