OF Walker Jenkins expected to begin rehab assignment this weekend

According to The Athletic's Dan Hayes, Jenkins is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Fort Myers on Saturday. Jenkins, Minnesota's consensus No. 1 overall prospect, has been on the injured list since May 5 after suffering a grade 2 AC joint sprain in his left shoulder while running into the outfield wall making a catch for Triple-A St. Paul.

Jenkins had a rough start at the plate with the Saints this season, but a strong stretch before landing on the IL improved his overall slash line to .256/.396/.389 over 111 plate appearances. He slashed .286/.399/.451 across four minor-league levels last season.

Jenkins, 21, has suffered numerous injuries since being drafted No. 5 overall by the Twins in 2023. He missed six weeks in 2024 because of a left hamstring strain and eight weeks in 2025 because of an ankle sprain. He also suffered a left hamstring strain in spring training.

If Jenkins picks up where he left off for the Saints and maintains good health, he may make his MLB debut later this season. If not, he should at least reach the big leagues next year.

RHP Mick Abel scheduled to throw bullpen after strong rehab start

Abel is slated to throw a light bullpen on Saturday, per Hayes. Abel made a rehab start for Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, hurling three scoreless innings with five strikeouts while allowing just two hits and no walks. His four-seam fastball appeared sharp, averaging 96.3 mph and touching 97.9 mph.

On April 20, the Twins placed Abel on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation. He appeared to be on the verge of returning in early May, but his recovery was slowed down after he felt soreness in his right triceps following a simulated bullpen session, which led to him receiving a cortisone shot. Before landing on the IL, Abel hurled 13 scoreless innings over his last two MLB starts.

With Bailey Ober on the IL, the Twins have just four healthy starting pitchers: Joe Ryan, Taj Bradley, Connor Prielipp and Zebby Matthews. Minnesota has gone with two bullpen games since Ober landed on the IL with a right flexor strain at the end of last month. Abel's return will give the Twins a much-needed five-man rotation.

LHP Kendry Rojas scheduled to throw live BP

Rojas will throw live batting practice in Fort Myers on Saturday, according to Hayes. Rojas, who has been on the IL since May 29 due to left triceps inflammation, has been a valuable long reliever for Minnesota this year, posting a 1.26 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. The left-hander has also made one start for the Twins this year, hurling four scoreless innings against the Houston Astros at Target Field on May 18. Due to the large number of injuries Minnesota's rotation has already endured in 2026, the club could really use Rojas on its staff to give its starters more rest.
